Drag Heals Drag Heals

Drag Heals

Drag Heals is a hybrid stage workshop and documentary TV series that follows six drag artists over an intensive month long workshop to build their own show. In each workshop, a guest coach joins stage director Tracey Erin Smith in exploring soul-deep story sharing techniques as well as the unique talents and skills required from a drag performer.

Over the course of the intensive workshops and story crafting, the participants dive deep into their personal lives to unearth lessons learned and bring them back to the audience as a gift. They are both the pirate and the pirated, the island and treasure. The resulting stories are emotional and cathartic, both for the drag artists and the audience who share in the experience.

Joey Skaggs: Celebrity Sperm Bank Joey Skaggs: Celebrity Sperm Bank

Joey Skaggs: Celebrity Sperm Bank

In 1976, Giuseppe Scaggoli (a.k.a. Joey Skaggs), the proprietor of the Celebrity Sperm Bank, announced an exclusive auction of world-famous rock star sperm. The night before the auction, the sperm was stolen, leaving many would-be recipients disappointed.

Skaggs created this performance event, which took place in real life on the street in New York, as a commentary on the media's obsession with celebrity, our distorted value system, and the fact that sometimes technology is in direct conflict with human values and ethics.

The eighth film in the ongoing oral history series, "Joey Skaggs Satire and Art Activism, 1960s to the Present and Beyond," this is a journey into the mind of the iconic performance artist who defies reality with his unforgettable antics.

Joey Skaggs: Metamorphosis, Cockroach Miracle Cure

In 1981, entomologist Dr. Josef Gregor (a.k.a. Joey Skaggs), along with his cult-like clinical volunteers, dupes the mainstream media when he unveils his revolutionary cockroach hormone vitamin pill. Purported to cure all ailments known to man including the common cold, acne, anemia, and menstrual cramps, it also makes people invulnerable to nuclear radiation and can save humanity from self-annihilation.

Since the 60s, artist Joey Skaggs has pioneered the use of the mass media to make social political commentary. In this documentary, Skaggs pulls back the curtain and reveals his unique stagecraft and searing commentary.

This film is the sixth in the ongoing oral history series, "Joey Skaggs: Satire and Art Activism, 1960s to the Present and Beyond."
