Artist, satirist Joey Skaggs tells the story of his 1976 highly publicized Celebrity Sperm Bank Auction which takes an abrupt turn when the sperm is stolen.
In 1976, Giuseppe Scaggoli (a.k.a. Joey Skaggs), the proprietor of the Celebrity Sperm Bank, announced an exclusive auction of world-famous rock star sperm. The night before the auction, the sperm was stolen, leaving many would-be recipients disappointed.
Skaggs created this performance event, which took place in real life on the street in New York, as a commentary on the media's obsession with celebrity, our distorted value system, and the fact that sometimes technology is in direct conflict with human values and ethics.
