One year has passed since Kamajai’s son brought an American fiancée to his small and traditional Kazakh village. Since then Kamajai has grown to accept and love Liya, her new daughter-in-law. But when Liya’s parents arrive from America to ‘save’ their daughter from her ‘uncivilized’ duty as the kélin of the house and take her back home, Kamajai must stand her ground to keep her loved ones together and defend her national traditions.
